Episode 2
Kristen Bell
She's a major star that has appeared in films and tv shows. She also happens to be married to Dax. The second Armchair Expert episode features the multi-talented Kristen Bell. Dax's attic space will never be the same after this one.
What's this all about?
This episode Kristen mentions how she always thinks about Happiness vs. Suffering, and how these two things help her through life. Throughout this interview between Dax and Kristen it always seems to boomerang back to this concept of how happiness is ultimately the healthier choice over suffering. It could also just be that Kristen would be happier if she could just go to Michael’s to buy some yarn. Click here to listen to the podcast.
What did they say?
- @2:38 “It’s not a yarn store.” We find out that Dax and Kristen have been arguing right before recording this podcast. Kristen wants to go to Michael’s to buy garland and Dax refers to Michael’s as a “yarn store”. We get the low down from Monica during the fact check where the best yarn stores in LA really are. Sorry Dax, it’s neither Taco Bell or McDonald’s.
- @5:16 “If you’re going to be inviting people here to your podcast, you have to have a door on the bathroom” Kristen takes issue with the lack of a door on the bathroom in the attic space. Dax says the door can’t be done, nor a curtain. Kristen offers to buy fabric at Michael’s to make a curtain to cover the bathroom opening.
- @9:10 “What are you looking at my fake tits?” Kristen recalls the story about her first time alone with Dax in a hot tub. It involves a supposed quick glance downwards and a diffusing joke about a boob job. Spoiler alert: They’re real.
- @31:03 “Fuck it, I’m going to do Ecstasy.” Here’s where Kristen first starts to talk about how she works on being happy over suffering. The concept is drawn from Eastern philosophy and more specifically tied to Buddhism. Dax talks about how his early life influences come from Bukowski and Kerouac’s On The Road.
- @34:47 “Um, I never came to in a Wal-Mart parking lot.” It’s official, Dax has never woken up in a Wal-Mart parking lot. This could possibly end up on his headstone, so a rather important piece of information.
- @54:33 “I just need to find my Kristen Bell.” Dax and Kristen discuss social media and how the public views their relationship as ideal, when that is not the reality.
- @58:27 “Could you get me a glass of water?” Dax explains why a simple request like getting a cup of water seems selfish to him. While Kristen sees the request as something completely different. It all comes down to how they were brought up differently.
- @1:11:00 “We were going to see Never Say Never.” Here’s the story about how a trip to see a Justin Bieber documentary ended up with Dax hitting some pigeons with his car. The pigeons unfortunately don’t make it.
- @1:36:07 “You love a lot of guys.” The list of guys Kristen loves is so varied that Dax has no clue what her “type” is. The list consists of Peter Dinklage, Vincent D’Onofrio, T.I. and Riz Ahmed.
These are the facts...
